His journey began as a Komodo tour operator, spending years accompanying guests, coordinating with crews, understanding sea conditions, island stops, and the realities of multi-day sailing. This long-term field experience later led to the creation of Golden Island Cruises, now known for operating Lombok–Komodo sailings with multiple boat categories.

From here, the journey officially starts as you sail toward Kenawa Island. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon of snorkeling, swimming, or simply taking in the peaceful island atmosphere. For those who love a bit of adventure, an optional short hike to the hilltop offers a stunning sunset view. The boat then continues sailing overnight toward Saleh Bay.
Wake up to the calm waters of Saleh Bay, one of the few places in Indonesia where you have the chance to swim and snorkel with whale sharks near the traditional fishing platforms. It’s a surreal moment and often the highlight of the trip. After this once-in-a-lifetime experience, the journey continues across the vast Tambora Sea—complete with a refreshing jump from the boat if conditions allow.
Arrive at Komodo Island to meet the legendary Komodo dragons in their natural habitat, guided by official park rangers. Next, unwind at Long Pink Beach, a perfect spot for swimming, snorkeling, and soaking in the pastel-colored shoreline. Later, head to Padar Island for the iconic hike to its panoramic viewpoint, arguably one of the most spectacular landscapes in Indonesia. Even if a boat attempts to sail under such conditions, authorized maritime authorities will not grant permission to depart. These regulations are strictly enforced to prevent potential safety risks and ensure passenger protection.
The first step is to identify the company that officially operates or manages the boat. Review their reputation on platforms such as Google Maps or other travel review websites, while keeping in mind that reviews may not always provide a complete picture due to various influencing factors.
Next, we recommend contacting the operator’s customer service team directly and asking detailed questions about the itinerary, facilities, safety procedures, and policies. After gathering sufficient information, you can make a more informed decision based on clarity and responsiveness.
Cancellation policies vary depending on the boat and service provider. Based on our experience, most operators require a copy of your passport and a deposit of approximately 30% to confirm a booking. The specific cancellation terms should always be clarified directly with the provider before making any payment.
In general, if a trip is canceled due to uncontrollable factors such as severe weather conditions, technical issues (e.g., engine failure), or administrative problems on the provider’s side (such as incomplete documentation), deposits are usually refunded in full.
However, refund policies ultimately depend on each individual provider. Kompass Komodo will assist travelers by communicating directly with the company or boat operator to ensure the best possible resolution.
Standard boats, commonly preferred by backpackers, typically accommodate between 40 and 50 passengers.
Mid-range to luxury vessels usually carry fewer guests and offer larger cabins and more spacious common areas, with an average capacity of 20 to 30 passengers.
This journey is ideal for travelers who enjoy sea travel, staying overnight on a boat, and participating in multiple outdoor activities.
However, it may not be suitable for those who are sensitive to marine wildlife or uncomfortable with long sea voyages. It is also important to note that all Lombok–Komodo routes pass through Saleh Bay, where whale shark encounters may occur. Some travelers choose not to participate, particularly as whale sharks in this area are often attracted by local fishing activities.
